J’ai termin\u00e9 ma carri\u00e8re en 2011 en tant que Directeur de Recherche \u00e9m\u00e9rite au CNRS, apr\u00e8s avoir travaill\u00e9 \u00e0 la conception de syst\u00e8mes artificiels adaptatifs – principalement des robots – inspir\u00e9s des animaux. Cela m’a conduit \u00e0 fonder un journal (Adaptive Behavior<\/em><\/a>) et une soci\u00e9t\u00e9 savante (International Society for Adaptive Behavior<\/em><\/a>), ainsi qu’\u00e0 organiser la s\u00e9rie de conf\u00e9rences internationales SAB (Simulation of Adaptive Behavior : From Animals to Animats<\/em><\/a>), dans le but de promouvoir une nouvelle discipline des sciences cognitives – compl\u00e9mentaire de celle de l’Intelligence Artificielle traditionnelle – que j’ai appel\u00e9e l’approche animat<\/a><\/em>. J’ai fond\u00e9 et dirig\u00e9 l’AnimatLab<\/em>, un groupe de recherche successivement implant\u00e9 \u00e0 l’ENS<\/a>, au LIP6<\/a> et \u00e0 l’ISIR<\/a>. J’ai co-\u00e9crit ou co-\u00e9dit\u00e9 une vingtaine d’ouvrages et co-sign\u00e9 environ 150 publications scientifiques ou articles de vulgarisation.<\/p>\n

I finished my career in 2011 as an Emeritus Director of Research at CNRS, having worked on the design of adaptive artificial systems – mainly robots – inspired by animals. This led me to launch a journal (Adaptive Behavior) and an academic society (International Society for Adaptive Behavior) and to organize the series of international conferences SAB (Simulation of Adaptive Behavior: From Animals to Animats) in order to promote a new discipline in cognitive science – complementary to traditional Artificial Intelligence \u2013 that I called \u00ab\u00a0the animat approach\u00a0\u00bb. I founded and directed the AnimatLab, a research group successively implanted at ENS, LIP6 and ISIR. I co-authored or co-edited twenty books and co-authored about 150 scientific publications and popular articles.<\/span><\/p>\n
